Scenes From the Week
The weeks are moving fast now. Quick recap:
With the heavy spring rains this year, the peas finally grew! This amounted to about 1lb yield. This was my third year trying. The key- lots of water.
The kits are growing rapidly…
As are the kids around me (Happy Birthday Violet!).
The honeybees are swarming again,

Pretty cake. Yes, the amount of real estate it takes to grow a decent quantity of peas really puts those Costco sized bags into perspective. I’ve realized that I really only have room to grow some peas to enjoy fresh, but not enough to actually freeze or anything, really.
Your blog is very informative. Thank you!
May 4th, 2010 at 3:31 pmVery jealous of your peas, we missed the boat this year. We had our first swarm of the year today, I hope the exiles found a new home.
May 5th, 2010 at 5:12 amI just found your site, it looks great and I’ll be spending some time perusing the backblog. Thanks.
What a lovely cake (and name, too).
Have you ever had any trouble feeding greens to kits? I’ve heard horror stories about stomach illnesses, and so I’ve been afraid to try it. That’s the sticking point with my getting away from over-reliance on pellets.
May 5th, 2010 at 5:00 pmCathy: I just left lettuce and radicchio for the kits this morning. First time. I noticed they were eating their mama’s pellets so I thought I’d try. Yes, isn’t the cake a stunner! The masterful Lauren Lyle made that cake.
Michelle: I love that cake. Lauren shares the same love for cake stands and beautiful cakes (we both love the look for than we like the actual cake, thought this was a tasty one). And yes, peas do take space. That was the other thing provided this year. I had no idea they were such picky little things.
