Roger: Thanks! I am not sure what you mean by off-gender…if I have an unwanted rooster, I eat it. Roosters are wonderful and having one in the flock would be great. Unfortunately Oakland ordinance does not allow it.

Great observation! I think, in terms of specific purpose birds, someone that knows they will not eat their hens may do better to keep layers only. I suspect bulky birds eat more.

Query: I understand that off-gender specific-purpose birds are destroyed when young. Doesn’t the multi-purpose bird let you skip that?

I would think that a multi-purpose bird for normal people would be a no-brainer, because I’d think the advantages of the specific birds would be too small to show up on the balance sheet of a normal person.
